For one, I am insured by PetCare Insurance.
I am a Family Dog Mediator and a certified dog trainer through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. I am also an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
I never stop learning. I’m required to submit Continuing Education Units to maintain my IAABC certification.
I am a registered sole proprietor/DBA in the state of Rhode Island. It’s just me, myself, and I (plus some help from technology)
ALL dogs in my care receive basic manners training.
Pet CPR and First Aid Certified
Outings - for the most part - are done one client at a time (with own my helper dogs depending on what the client dog is working on). Taking solo clients on hikes uses more gas and takes more time.
I’m recommended by local dog pros!
I will listen to your dog. I am proactive, not reactive, and can spot subtle body language signs that indicate discomfort.
I will send you some pretty sweet photos of your dog.
I charge by the night. If you’re going away Sunday and coming back Thursday afternoon, you will only pay for 4 nights as long as I can leave by 9 a.m.the day you return. In most cases, I can accommodate a drop-in visit on the day you return if needed.
Other considerations that shouldn’t need to be said but I have heard too often:
I will respect your coffee maker and other belongings. You will not come home to your toaster in the pool or air fryer in the backyard.
I will not throw a party at your house when you are away.
You will not come home to a disaster. If anything, your house will be cleaner than it was when you left! I aim for you to come home and say, “Wow, I can’t tell anyone has been here!” because let’s be real, a new person sleeping at your house can make you feel vulnerable.

There are a lot of terms you can use: positive reinforcement, science-based, evidence-based, humane, ethical…basically science and kindness. You can learn more about training methods over on our Resources page.
-
I do not use or recommend prong collars, choke chains, or shock collars. If you do not have a physical fence or have an “invisible fence”, I will use a long leash when caring for your dog for safety and security. For equipment recommendations, visit the Recommended Products page.

-
NO! Chances are I love them. I will never take a case that I’m not well-versed in. It’s important (and ethical) for dog professionals to know their areas of expertise and not just “wing it.”
-
If your dog has a bite history, I will ask questions about the context, severity, and management plans before making a decision. Often times, we will discuss muzzle training and other safety management strategies.
-
Muzzles, when fitted and conditioned properly, are a great management tool for many reasons.
A dog wearing a muzzle does not necessarily mean they’re a bite risk. We need to stop the stigma around muzzles.
Instead of automatically thinking muzzle = danger, we should think muzzles = safety.
My pit mix Charlotte wears a muzzle on off-leash hikes because she occasionally eats poop and, due to her breed and age, when she gets excited she tends to grab dogs’ legs and collars during play. The muzzle allows her to have her needs met and make good choices.

Most of the time.
If your dog has trouble taking their meds (spits it out, won’t eat it unless a certain person gives it to them a certain way) this will be something we’ll have to practice ahead of time.
-
Your dog will go in a heavy-duty airline crate securely in my SUV. Pet Care Insurance covers client dogs being transported in my vehicle.
For safety purposes, your dog will be crated at all times in my vehicle.
-
It depends. While I am allergic to cats, I can tolerate an independent cat who just needs to be fed and litter box cleaned. If they’re a friendly kitty who enjoys sleeping with you and lots of petting, unfortunately, my allergies say no.

Please provide documentation for the following vaccines (or titer results): Rabies and DHPP.
